Honey, you’ve got a big storm coming. Supported by MACHINE-A, Steven Ma Studio enlists TikTok and Instagram fashion sensation Brenda Hashtag and the director Anni Bread to create Pump Fiction, a new, independent short film that captures the zeitgeist of our shared youth experiences.

Gossip Girl, Kill Bill, Mean Girls, American Horror Story, The White Lotus. Pop culture and real life combine in Steven Ma’s exploration of finding oneself within the vein of high school cliques, challenges, and characters.

Quentin Tarantino references are rife throughout, drawing on the director’s ability to channel comedic value and conceptual narratives that make one think. Pump Fiction is the tale of O-Ren, inspired by Oren Ishii of Kill Bill, here becoming the Steven Ma protagonist in a world of understanding and accepting adolescence.

There are no villains or heroes – everybody is flawed in their own ways. Pump Fiction is a protest for anti-bullying, a mission statement for acceptance and owning your identity. It’s Queer joy, self-love, real life.

Comprising four chapters – “The 2 Headed Lion,” “The Boys,” “A Short Horror Story,” and for the final chapter, “The Plot Twist” – Steven Ma’s story of O-Ren takes the audience on a journey with the protagonist as she finds, obsesses, defends, and claims her Steven Ma footwear.

On the feet of all characters involved, we find a new series of styles ranging from high-heeled pumps and kitten heels to asymmetrical derbies and Chelsea boots – all underpinned with our signature stacked heel and illusion double heel.

But Pump Fiction is not about the shoes. “Surprise, Bitch.”

INSPIRED BY THE TARANTINO CLASSIC, ‘KILL BILL’, COLLECTION NO. 5 FROM STEVEN MA CAPTURES THE CHAOTIC ENERGY OF THE FILMS AND PAYS HOMAGE TO STUDENTS FEATURED. COMPLEXITIES AND CHALLENGES OF SCHOOL LIFE ARE FURTHER EXPLORED IN THE CAMPAIGN FILM THAT WILL BE RELEASED TO SUPPORT THE COLLECTION.

THIS SEASON, WRAPPED HEELS AND SQUARE LOOP HEELS RETURN IN NEW COLOURS AND ALONGSIDE THE SLINGBACK HEELS, THE THIGH HIGH SLINGBACK BOOT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. FOR UNISEX STYLES, THE NEW CLEAR HEEL DERBY JOINS THE LINE UP, ALONGSIDE A VERSION OF THE ELLIE SLIPPER WITH A CLEAR HEEL. A NEW FAMILY OF UNISEX STYLES HAS BEEN DEVELOPED, FEATURING A RUBBER-TEXTURED TRANSLUCENT SOLE, WITH THE STACKED HEEL MOTIF AND ADDED HEIGHT THROUGHOUT THE SOLE. THREE NEW STYLES MAKE UP THE FAMILY, CHELSEA BOOTS, BOWLING SHOES AND BOWLING BOOTS.

YELLOW AND BLACK COLOURS RECALL THE BRIDE’S SIGNATURE LOOK, ALONGSIDE STRIPE MOTIFS SEEN IN HER OUTFITS. THE SILVER IN THE COLLECTION REFERENCES THE BLADES AND ITEMS OF PROTECTION IN THE FILM WHILST PINK REPRESENTS SCHOOL CHILDREN AND YOUTH. THE PALETTE IS ROUNDED OUT BY WHITE IN VARIOUS FINISHES. TEXTURES ARE EXPLORED IN THIS NEW SEASON, WITH PATENT LEATHER, WHITE DISTRESSED LEATHER ANDSILVER CRACKED FOIL LEATHER MAKING THEIR APPEARANCE.

COLLECTION NO. 5 PUMP FICTION FILM PREMIERE EVENT

ON FEBRUARY 17TH 2023, STEVEN MA PREMIERED PUMP FICTION, THE FASHION FILM, INSPIRED BY COLLECTION NO. 5. BRINGING THE WORLD OF THE SHORT FILM INTO THE EVENT SPACE, THE COLLECTION WAS SHOWCASED ALONGSIDE ELEMENTS OF SCHOOL LIFE. RUNNING AS PART OF LONDON FASHION WEEK, THE EVENT WAS ATTENDED BY KEY BUYERS, PRESS AND CELEBRITIES, A TESTAMENT TO THE INTEREST AND SUPPORT FOR THE BRAND.
